Description
Buffalo mushrooms are a type of Psilocybe cubensis originating from Koh Samui, an island off the coast of Thailand. They’re also known as Thai Pink Buffalo, PB, or sometimes Hairy Buffalo. Partygoers on neighboring Koh Phangan often favor the Koh Samui variety during full moon festivals.
An American mycologist nicknamed “Mushroom John” is credited with identifying Pink Buffalo mushrooms in the late 1990s to early 2000s. These mushrooms are very similar to other Southeast Asian P. cubensis varieties like Lipa Yai, Ban Hua, Koh Samui Super Strain and Cambodian magic mushrooms.
Pink Buffalo mushrooms share traits with other P. cubensis varieties. Their slender stalks turn intense blue when bruised due to the presence of psilocin. Caps are medium to large, ranging from light brown to dark golden brown with occasional purple hues. Lab analyses suggest Pink Buffalo mushrooms have an average amount of psilocybin. However, indigenous knowledge suggests they may be more potent depending on growing conditions.
Cultivating Pink Buffalo mushrooms at home ensures product safety and proper identification. However, it’s essential to be aware of legal restrictions and consult local laws before engaging in cultivation.
